DEKKER Brings the Power of Vacuum Technology to POWER-GEN International in Booth #8137
Michigan City, IN [October - 2015] – Having provided vacuum technology for Ivanpah, the 2014 Power Plant of the Year, DEKKER Vacuum Technologies will next showcase its powerful liquid ring condenser exhauster technology at POWER-GEN International.
POWER-GEN, the world's largest event focusing on the latest innovations, technical trends and business strategies of the power generation industry, will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, from December 8-10. The event will bring together more than 22,000 power professionals from more than 90 countries, more than 200 of the industry’s top speakers, and more than 1,400 exhibiting companies.
DEKKER will be represented at booth 8137 by George Harding, DEKKER Director of Power Generation Sales, and Jay Dressander, DEKKER Director of Sales.
Harding specializes in condenser and evaporator vacuum applications, and has more than 30 years of experience in the vacuum industry. He noted “The industry is always trending towards products that deliver advanced performance. A primary example is DEKKER AquaSeal™ POWERGEN technology replacing older, outdated steam jets for condenser exhausting where the operating cost reductions can yield paybacks of less than a year.”
Dressander is a sales and marketing executive with nearly 20 years of experience in business-to-business sales and marketing, with a focus on air handling and rotating equipment. Dressander said “DEKKER has had more orders this year from the power generation industry than in any previous year, from throughout the United States and as far away as Australia,”
AquaSeal Sets the Industry Standard
DEKKER anticipates that most inquiries will be about the AquaSealPOWERGEN liquid ring vacuum pump system, the premier technology in the power generation market for condenser exhauster applications. Condenser exhausters are vacuum pumps used to remove air from condensers during start-up (“hogging”), and to remove air in-leakage during generating operations (“holding”).
DEKKER will also promote a full range of world-class solutions, including the Maxima-K™ large capacity single-stage vacuum pumps for condenser hogging and fly ash conveying applications, and the TiTan™ water-sealed liquid ring vacuum pump system for water box and pump priming.
“The AquaSeal brand is becoming recognized as the industry standard,” Dressander said. “Low operating costs, minimal maintenance, ability to handle excess leakage and liquid carry-over, other durability and performance features are the superior advantages of AquaSeal over other types of pumps and steam jets.”
While condenser vacuum is dependent on cooling water or air temperature, excess leakage can cause condensers to become “air-bound” and lose efficiency. Improving condenser vacuum by even a half-inch of mercury (0.5” HgA) can result in substantial savings. For example, a plant rated at 500 megawatts, operating 8,000 hours per year (at a price for natural gas of $3 per million BTUs) could potentially save more than $300,000 per year.
DEKKER: A Role in Ivanpah’s Success
DEKKER’s success at Ivanpah is a model example of the company’s capabilities in providing applications-based solutions for the power generation industry. Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System in California was named by POWER as its 2014 Power Plant of the Year, the first renewable plant to receive this recognition. It is a collaboration of high-profile developers Google, NRG Energy and BrightSource Energy.
DEKKER supplied six AquaSealPOWERGEN daytime condenser exhausters (model DVW 1600) and three nighttime holding units (model DVW 0300) for Ivanpah. The full-recovery system with its efficient two-stage design and heavy-duty fabrication ensures excellent condenser performance over its entire design vacuum range.
The DEKKER team also used its expertise to fashion innovative approaches to the project, ensuring that the largest solar thermal plant in the world would enjoys optimal performance through desert heat and freezing winter temperatures.
